2018 Hyundai Grand Starex – After leaked photos of Hyundai’s refreshed people carrier surfaced on the web recently, the automaker officially revealed the 2018 Grand Starex in South Korea. It now bears a more chiseled front end along with a more modern-looking cabin. Presented here is the top-of-the-range 2.5 Urban for the Korean market.

Unlike its predecessor which gets vertically-oriented headlights, the 2018 Grand Starex features a sleeker finish. This makes for a more striking appearance which complements well with the new ‘Cascading Grill’. Also introduced are new 17-inch alloy wheels, reshaped foglights and front bumper, projector halogens and LED taillights.

In terms of size, the 2018 Grand Starex measures 5150mm long, 1920mm wide, 1925mm tall (1940mm with 4WD) and it has a 3200mm wheelbase.

Inside, Hyundai was busy making major changes in the Grand Starex’s cabin. For the 2018 model year update, the van gets a more car-like interior along with new high-tech features. A new four-spoke steering wheel, a revised set of instrument gauges and redesigned gear lever are present inside the Grand Starex. There is also the new eight-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen infotainment system that comes with navigation.

The top-spec Urban has seating for 9 people although mid-range and entry level models can come with either 11 or 12 seats.

Under the hood, the 2.5-liter CRDi turbo-diesel gets an upgrade and is now Euro6 compliant. When connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine produces 140 PS at 3600 rpm and 353 Nm of torque between 1500 – 2500 rpm. Five-speed automatic versions come with VGT equipped turbo-diesels generating 176 PS at 3600 rpm and 451 Nm of torque from 2000 – 2250 rpm. As mentioned earlier, 4WD for the 2018 Grand Starex is available as an option.

Other updates introduced in the 2018 Grand Starex include a softer suspension, hill-start assist, locking differential for 4WD models and better sound insulation.
