The Kia Rio has evolved into a well-rounded supermini. For less than most rivals, the car has lots of kit, punchy performance, decent fuel economy and Kia’s seven-year warranty.
It shares much with the Hyundai i20, but Kia claims the Rio is comfier and easier to drive. Handling is certainly tidy, with good body control and accurate steering; a Ford Fiesta is more fun, while a Citroen C3 and Skoda Fabia ride better. Still, strong visibility, a light clutch and slick shifts make the Rio great in town.
Our favourite engine is the 99bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder T-GDI petrol, with its 126g/km CO2 emissions and 45.6mpg WLTP economy.
