Range Rover Evoque – best crossovers and small SUVs | Best small SUVs and crossovers on sale 2019

The original Range Rover Evoque famously had design input from Victoria Beckham and it looks like the second generation of Land Rover’s smallest SUV is just a fashionable.

The small premium SUV sector shows no signs of slowing down and now Land Rover is trying to consolidate its spot in this tough segment with the new Evoque.

There are two diesels and three petrols, plus a wide variety of trim levels available for the 2019 Evoque. Our pick is the SE D180 Automatic but whichever Evoque you choose, the Jaguar E-Pace and BMW X2 will be more engaging to drive.

Range Rover has clearly focused on making the Evoque more refined and quieter on the move than its predecessor. The Evoque is comfortable on both the motorway and in the city, but being a Range Rover it is seriously impressive off-road. While most buyers won’t make the most of the 100mm extra wading depth or even touch the Terrain Response 2 system, it’s comforting to know the Evoque won’t get stuck in a muddy field.

The interior is also a big step up from the original Evoque. In a first for Land Rover, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is available and there’s a Velar-sourced dual screen set-up with even entry-level cars enjoying a 10-inch infotainment system.

We liked the Range Rover Evoque so much we gave it our coveted Small Premium SUV of the Year at the 2019 Auto Express New Car Awards.
